When designing your tiny home, remember that your bedroom should be a priority. Just like a bedroom in a full-sized house would be a place where you can unwind and relax, your tiny home bedroom should give you the same comforting feeling, even if it is not technically another room.

Whether you are furnishing a pre-made home or building your own, finding the space for a bed in your tiny home may be more difficult than you anticipated. Not only do you have to be conscious of how much space your bed consumes, but you also must be sure it will offer optimal comfort all night long.

From extra storage to secret hideaways, here are some of the best options for beds in your tiny home!

Lofts

Lofts are one of the most popular sleeping arrangements amongst tiny homeowners. This design allows you to use the vertical space in your home, leaving the floor open. Lofts are an ideal way to devise a bedroom space that is separate from your living and working areas, essentially creating a room without walls.

Using a loft as your bedroom may seem crowded, but it can give you more options for comfort than a standard bed or floor plan. Since you won’t need to fit your bed into a specific area, you will have more options for things like mattress size.

And since a loft bed doesn’t sit on the floor, you can get creative with the space underneath. Some common uses of this space include an office or workstation, a dining room, or the living area.

Sofa Beds and Futons

Lofts offer plenty of perks in terms of space and comfort, but they are not for everyone! Perhaps you bought your home pre-built and can’t add a loft or don’t want the hassle of climbing into your bedroom every night. There are many reasons why a loft might not be the best option for your tiny home.

Another popular bed for tiny homes is a sofa bed or futon. These convertible couches allow you to transform your space from living room to bedroom by simply moving a few cushions. Sofa beds are more common in traveling tiny homes, like camping trailers and RVs, but they can elevate your space in any home.

Some people may be hesitant to add such a large piece of furniture to their tiny home, but these couches may be the perfect solution for turning two rooms into one!

Bunk Beds

If your tiny home needs to accommodate multiple sleepers, bunk beds may be your best friend. Bunk beds are great for families that want to get the most out of their shared space. Like lofts, bunk beds can help you maximize vertical space. But because there are two beds instead of one platform, you will want to find the right style to suit your needs. Some bunk bed frames come with built-in desks or shelves, which can add to the functionality of your furniture. If you are building your own tiny home, you can even build the beds right into the walls and plan the rest of the space around them.

Bunk beds can be fun and exciting for families with children, but they might not provide the best night’s sleep for adults. Most bunk bed frames accommodate a twin or a full-size mattress, making it less than ideal for the average adult.

Murphy Beds

The Murphy bed has come a long way over the years. These in-the-wall beds are one of the best options for dual functionality and space-saving. The modern Murphy bed is now available in vertical and horizontal designs, making it easier to adjust to the space in your tiny home. Optional features include built-in shelves and desks, side tables, cabinets for storage, and a couch that fits under the bed.

In addition to the design updates, Murphy beds have had a technological upgrade. For people who like the idea of hide-away sleeping quarters but do not want to manually pull out the bed every night, companies like Zoom-Room have developed the motorized Murphy bed. These electric beds function the same as a regular Murphy bed but eliminate the extra hassle before bedtime.

Under the Bed Storage

If you are searching for a more traditional bedroom look, there are many ways you can utilize the space in your room and get the most out of your bed. One option is to invest in a bed frame with built-in drawers or other storage underneath. These beds eliminate the need for a chest of drawers or a dresser and free up floor space. These bed frames can be bulky and might take up too much space, but do not worry! You can create an arrangement by using a simple bed frame that fits your space and purchasing your own under-bed storage. These come in a variety of sizes, colors, and designs so you can find the perfect match for your bedroom.
